Does Israel still matter in God’s plan?

Are the events unfolding today connected to Scripture?

And why does this tiny nation continue to stand at the center of world attention generation after generation?

Those are important questions.

And the Bible speaks to them far more directly than many people realize.

Israel’s Story Did Not End in the Old Testament

One of the misunderstandings many people have is assuming that Israel’s significance ended once the church was established.

But throughout both the Old and New Testaments, Scripture consistently points toward a future for the Jewish people and the land of Israel.

The prophets repeatedly described:

a physical return to the land,
a spiritual awakening,
and a future kingdom centered in Jerusalem.

For centuries, those promises may have seemed impossible.

The Jewish people were scattered throughout the world. Jerusalem was conquered repeatedly. The land itself often appeared barren and forgotten.

Yet in 1948, something remarkable happened.

The modern state of Israel was reborn.

For students of Scripture, that moment carried enormous significance.

The Land Came Back to Life

One of the most striking things about visiting Israel today is seeing how the land has flourished.

Deserts bloom.

Agriculture thrives.

Cities have expanded.

Technology and innovation continue growing rapidly.

That renewal reminds me often of the words of Ezekiel, who described the land itself coming back to life after long desolation.

But the prophets also make clear that physical restoration is only part of the story.

The greater promise still ahead is spiritual renewal.

A Future Spiritual Awakening

Throughout Scripture, God promises a future turning of many Jewish people toward their Messiah.

Ezekiel spoke of God giving His people “a new heart.”

Zechariah described a future repentance and mourning.

And Paul reaffirmed those promises in Romans 11 when he wrote:

“And so all Israel will be saved.”

— Romans 11:26

That does not mean every Jewish person is automatically saved apart from faith in Christ. Scripture is clear that salvation comes only through Jesus.

But it does point toward a future work of God among the Jewish people unlike anything the world has yet seen.

God’s story with Israel is not finished.

Why Jerusalem Continues to Matter

One reason Israel remains at the center of world tension is because Jerusalem itself carries enormous spiritual significance.

The prophet Zechariah described Jerusalem as “a cup of trembling” for the nations.

That description feels remarkably current.

Few cities in the world attract more global attention, political controversy, or spiritual significance than Jerusalem.

And according to Scripture, that will continue in the days ahead.

The Bible teaches that Jerusalem will one day become the center of Messiah’s earthly reign when Jesus rules as King.

That future kingdom remains one of the great hopes woven throughout prophecy.

Prophecy Should Lead Us to Trust God

Sometimes people approach Bible prophecy merely as speculation or headline interpretation.

But biblical prophecy is ultimately meant to strengthen our confidence in God.

It reminds us:

that history is moving somewhere,
that God remains sovereign,
and that His promises can be trusted.

Israel’s survival alone is extraordinary.

Empires have risen and fallen.

Nations far more powerful have disappeared.

Yet the Jewish people remain.

And the land of Israel continues standing at the crossroads of world history exactly as Scripture described.

What This Means for Us Today

For Christians, understanding Israel’s future should never produce fear or obsession.

Instead, it should produce:

confidence in God’s Word,
compassion for people,
urgency about the gospel,
and hope for the future.

The Bible makes clear that difficult days will come.

But it also makes clear that God remains fully in control.

One day, the Prince of Peace Himself will reign from Jerusalem.

And until that day comes, we continue watching, praying, studying Scripture, and trusting the God who keeps His promises.

“Comfort My People” | Why Isaiah’s Words Still Matter Today

One of the most moving verses in the book of Isaiah begins with a simple command from God:

“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God.

— Isaiah 40:1

Those words were originally spoken to a people who had experienced loss, judgment, fear, and uncertainty.

And in many ways, they still resonate deeply today.

A People Familiar With Suffering

Few groups of people in history have endured as much suffering and persecution as the Jewish people.

From ancient exiles and invasions to the horrors of the Holocaust, Jewish communities have repeatedly faced hatred, violence, and attempts to erase them entirely.

Sadly, antisemitism is once again growing around the world.

We see it:

on college campuses,
in political rhetoric,
online,
and even through acts of violence against Jewish communities.

That should deeply concern every Christian.

Not only because hatred itself is evil—but because Scripture consistently reminds us of God’s continuing love for the Jewish people.

God Has Not Forgotten Israel

One of the themes repeated throughout the Bible is God’s faithfulness to His covenant promises.

Even during seasons when Israel wandered spiritually, God continued calling the Jewish people “My people.”

That does not mean Israel was immune from discipline or hardship. The Old Testament makes clear that God dealt seriously with sin and rebellion.

But His covenant love remained.

Jeremiah wrote:

“I have loved you with an everlasting love.”

— Jeremiah 31:3

And the Apostle Paul later declared:

“The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”

— Romans 11:29

God has not abandoned His promises.

Our Response Should Be Compassion

As Christians, we should never respond to Jewish suffering with indifference.

Isaiah’s command to “comfort My people” reminds us that God cares deeply about the pain His people experience.

That should shape our hearts as well.

Now, supporting Jewish people does not require us to agree with every political policy or governmental decision made by the modern state of Israel. Christians can hold differing political opinions.

But Scripture calls us toward compassion, prayer, and moral clarity when hatred rises against the Jewish people.

Especially after everything history has already shown us.

The Deepest Need Is Spiritual Hope

At the same time, the greatest hope for both Jewish and Gentile people is ultimately found in Jesus the Messiah.

One of the burdens I carry every time I visit Israel is the awareness that many living in the land where Jesus walked still do not recognize Him as Savior.

That reality should not produce arrogance in Christians.

It should produce prayer.

Paul himself wrote in Romans 10:

“My heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.”

That remains my prayer as well.

Why This Still Matters

When I think about Isaiah’s words today, I am reminded that comforting people involves more than sympathy.

It means standing against hatred.

It means praying for peace.

It means pointing people toward the hope found in Christ.

And it means remembering that God’s story with Israel is still unfolding.

The Bible teaches that one day there will be a great spiritual awakening among the Jewish people. The prophets spoke of it repeatedly. Paul reaffirmed it in Romans 11.

Until then, believers are called to pray faithfully, love sincerely, and trust that God is still accomplishing His purposes in this world.

And perhaps now more than ever, the words of Isaiah still matter:

“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God.

One of the questions Christians often ask today is this:

Has God finished His work with Israel?

For many believers, that question becomes especially important whenever events in the Middle East dominate the headlines. Wars, rising antisemitism, political unrest, and growing global tensions naturally cause people to wonder what role Israel still plays in God’s plan.

The Apostle Paul addressed that very issue in Romans 11.

And his answer could not be clearer.

“Has God Rejected His People?”

Paul begins Romans 11 with a direct question:

“Did God reject His people?”

— Romans 11:1

His response is immediate:

“By no means!”

That statement matters.

Because throughout church history, some have assumed that God permanently set Israel aside and transferred all of His promises entirely to the church. But Paul warns against that kind of thinking.

Instead, he explains that although many in Israel rejected Jesus as Messiah, God’s covenant promises to the Jewish people remain intact.

In fact, Paul goes on to write:

“The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”

— Romans 11:29

God does not abandon His promises.

Israel’s Story Is Still Unfolding

Romans 11 presents a fascinating picture of God’s plan through history.

Paul explains that Israel’s rejection of Jesus opened the door for the gospel to spread to the Gentile world. Through that process, millions of non-Jewish people—including most of us reading this today—have come to faith in Christ.

But that was never meant to be the end of Israel’s story.

Paul describes Israel’s current spiritual condition as temporary blindness, not permanent rejection. He points toward a future day when many Jewish people will recognize Jesus as Messiah.

That is one reason Israel’s future remains significant biblically.

God is still writing that story.

Why This Matters Today

When we look at modern Israel, we should avoid two extremes.

One extreme treats Israel as though every political decision automatically carries divine approval. The other dismisses Israel’s significance entirely and views the nation as no different from any other country.

Scripture points us toward a more balanced understanding.

Israel matters because God chose to work through the Jewish people in a unique way throughout history.

Through Israel came:

the covenants,
the prophets,
the Scriptures,
and ultimately the Messiah Himself.

As Christians, our faith is deeply connected to that story.

Jesus Himself said:

“Salvation is of the Jews.”

— John 4:22

That does not mean salvation belongs only to Jewish people. It means God chose to bring salvation to the world through Israel.

A Future Spiritual Awakening

One of the most remarkable themes throughout both the Old and New Testaments is the promise of a future spiritual awakening among the Jewish people.

The prophets spoke repeatedly about a day when Israel would not only return physically to the land, but would also experience spiritual renewal.

Ezekiel described God giving His people “a new heart.”

Zechariah spoke of a future mourning and repentance.

Paul echoed those same themes in Romans 11 when he declared:

“And so all Israel will be saved.”

Not boasting.

Not hostility.

Not indifference.

Instead, Christians should respond with gratitude, compassion, and prayer.

Why I Continue Teaching About Israel

One reason Walk the Bible continues teaching about Israel and Bible prophecy is because these subjects are deeply woven throughout Scripture itself.

The story of Israel is not a side issue in the Bible.

It is part of the larger story of redemption.

And understanding that story helps us better understand:

God’s faithfulness,
God’s promises,
and ultimately God’s plan for the future.

Romans 11 reminds us that history is moving somewhere.

God is still at work.

And His faithfulness to Israel reminds all of us that He remains faithful to every promise He has made.

Standing With Israel in Washington DC

Recently, I had the privilege of traveling to Washington DC to participate in the Day of Advocacy for Israel.

Over the course of two days, pastors, ministry leaders, and Jewish rabbis from around the country gathered in our nation’s capital to meet with congressional leaders, discuss the growing challenges facing Israel, and encourage continued support for the Jewish people during a very difficult season.

For me, the trip was both meaningful and sobering.

Walking the Halls of Congress

One of the striking moments of the trip was simply walking through the halls of Congress alongside Jewish leaders and fellow Christians who care deeply about Israel and the future of the Middle East.

Our group met in congressional offices throughout the day, including the office of Congressman Max Miller in the Cannon Building. In each meeting, conversations centered around security concerns, the rise of antisemitism, the ongoing tensions involving Iran, and the importance of America’s relationship with Israel.

What stood out to me most was how personal many of these conversations became.

Behind every policy discussion are real people.

Families living under the threat of missiles.

Communities still grieving the horrors of October 7.

Jewish students facing growing hostility on college campuses.

Pastors trying to help their congregations understand why these events matter spiritually as well as politically.

It reminded me again that support for Israel is not merely an abstract issue. It involves real lives and real suffering.

A Growing Concern

Throughout the meetings, one concern surfaced repeatedly: the dramatic rise of antisemitism across the world.

In recent years, hatred toward Jewish people has become increasingly open and aggressive in many places—including here in America.

That reality weighed heavily on many of the Jewish leaders present during the Day of Advocacy.

As Christians, I believe we should care deeply about that.

Scripture repeatedly reminds us of God’s continuing love for the Jewish people and His faithfulness to the promises He made throughout history. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 11 that “the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.”

God has not forgotten His people.

And neither should we.

Encouraged by Unity

One of the most encouraging aspects of the trip was seeing pastors and rabbis standing together.

In a world filled with division, those moments carried significance.

We may come from different backgrounds and traditions, but we were united around several important truths:

The value of human life
The need to stand against hatred
The importance of peace and security
And the recognition that Israel remains deeply significant in the unfolding story of Scripture

Those conversations reminded me how important it is for Christians to approach these issues prayerfully and thoughtfully—not merely politically or emotionally.

Praying for Leaders

As our time in Washington concluded, I found myself reflecting on the biblical command to pray for those in authority.

Leading a nation in times like these is not easy.

The decisions being made right now regarding Israel, Iran, terrorism, and international security carry enormous consequences for millions of people around the world.

Whatever our political perspectives may be, Scripture calls believers to pray for wisdom, discernment, and righteousness among leaders.

That became one of my strongest prayers during the trip.

Looking Ahead

The events unfolding in the Middle East continue to remind us that the Bible is not disconnected from current events.

Israel remains at the center of world attention.

Jerusalem continues to be what the prophet Zechariah called “a cup of trembling” for the nations.

And while headlines change almost daily, God’s purposes continue moving forward exactly as Scripture describes.

That is why ministries like Walk the Bible remain committed to helping people understand both the land of the Bible and the prophetic significance of Israel’s future.

It is also why we continue encouraging pastors and Christian leaders to visit the Holy Land whenever possible.

Because once you walk those places for yourself, read Scripture in its original setting, and meet the people living there today, the Bible comes alive in an entirely different way.

And perhaps more importantly, your prayers become far more personal.

Why Christians Still Stand With Israel

Reflections From Washington’s Day of Advocacy

Recently, I had the privilege of traveling to Washington DC to participate in the Day of Advocacy for Israel alongside pastors, ministry leaders, and Jewish rabbis from across the country.

For two days, we met with congressional leaders, attended discussions about rising antisemitism, and spoke openly about why support for Israel still matters—not only politically, but biblically and spiritually.

As I walked the halls of Congress, one question kept coming to mind:

Why should Christians care so deeply about Israel?

For me, the answer begins with Scripture itself.

God’s Love for Israel Has Not Changed

The prophet Jeremiah records these powerful words from God to the Jewish people:

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.” — Jeremiah 31:3

Those words were spoken after seasons of rebellion, judgment, and hardship. Yet even then, God reminded Israel that His love had not ended.

That matters.

Because throughout history, there have always been voices trying to erase, isolate, or destroy the Jewish people. We see it again in our own generation through growing antisemitism around the world.

But Scripture reminds us that God has not abandoned His covenant people.

A Covenant-Keeping God

One of the central themes of the Bible is that God keeps His promises.

When God established His covenant with Abraham in Genesis, He was making promises that stretched far beyond Abraham’s lifetime. Those promises included the future of the Jewish people and the land of Israel itself.

That does not mean Israel is perfect. No nation is.

But it does mean that God remains faithful to His Word.

And honestly, that gives me hope personally as well.

Because if God breaks His promises to Israel, then how can any of us trust His promises about salvation, forgiveness, or eternal life?

The Apostle Paul wrote:

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful.” — 2 Timothy 2:13

The same God who promises redemption through Christ is the God who promised to preserve His people Israel.

Our Faith Has Jewish Roots

As Christians, we should never forget that our spiritual heritage is deeply connected to Israel.

Jesus was born into a Jewish family.

He observed the Jewish feasts and taught in Jewish synagogues.

The prophets were Jewish. The apostles were Jewish. The Scriptures emerged from the story of God working through Israel.

Jesus Himself declared:

“Salvation is of the Jews.” — John 4:22

That does not diminish the gospel for the nations—it explains how God brought redemption to the nations.

Romans 11 reminds us that through Israel’s stumbling, salvation came to the Gentile world. And Paul also points toward a future day when many Jewish people will recognize their Messiah.

God’s story with Israel is not finished.

Standing Against Antisemitism

One of the burdens shared repeatedly during our meetings in Washington was the alarming rise of antisemitism both in America and globally.

History reminds us how dangerous hatred toward the Jewish people can become.

The Holocaust did not emerge overnight. It grew from years of hostility, propaganda, silence, and indifference.

As Christians, we should never be comfortable with hatred directed toward the Jewish people.

Isaiah 40 begins with these words:

“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God.

That call still matters today.

Supporting Israel does not mean agreeing with every political decision made by its government. But it does mean recognizing the significance of the Jewish people in God’s unfolding plan and standing against efforts to dehumanize or destroy them.

Why These Days in Washington Mattered

One of the most meaningful parts of the Day of Advocacy was seeing pastors and rabbis standing together.

In a divided world, those moments mattered.

We prayed together.

We met with leaders together.

We spoke together about the importance of protecting Jewish communities and strengthening the relationship between America and Israel.

And throughout those conversations, I was reminded again that Christians should not approach Israel merely as a headline or political debate.

We should approach it prayerfully.

Because behind every headline are real families, real fears, and real spiritual needs.

A Final Thought

As I stood near the Capitol building before returning home, I found myself praying not only for Israel, but for our own nation as well.

We need wisdom.

We need discernment.

And above all, we need to remember that history is ultimately moving according to God’s purposes—not man’s.

The Bible reminds us that God is still at work in this world.

And part of that story still runs through Israel.

How Should We Live in Times Like These? A Clear Response in Uncertain Days

By now, many people are asking the same questions:

What is happening in our world?

Where is all of this going?

And how should we respond?

We’ve looked at the events.

We’ve considered what Scripture says.

Now the question becomes personal:

How should we live in times like these?

It Starts with Perspective

When the world feels unstable, our instinct is often to react.

To worry.

To speculate.

To search for certainty in the headlines.

But Scripture calls us to something different.

It calls us to live from a steady foundation , not a shifting one.

A Question Worth Asking

The apostle Peter asked a question that feels especially relevant right now.

In 2 Peter 3:11, he writes:

“Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?”

That’s the right question.

Not just:

“What’s happening out there?”

But:

“Who should I be in light of it?”

1. Live with Spiritual Clarity

Moments like this remind us that the world is not permanent.

It is moving toward a conclusion that God has already defined.

That doesn’t mean we disengage from life.

It means we live with eternal awareness.

We take God’s Word seriously
We understand the times
We don’t get swept up in confusion

Clarity comes when we anchor ourselves in truth.

2. Live with Confidence, Not Fear

Fear thrives in uncertainty.

But for those who know Christ, uncertainty does not equal instability.

Because our confidence is not in circumstances.

It is in God.

As Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will make your paths straight.”

You may not know what’s coming next.

But you can know the One who does.

3. Live with Urgency

There is a sense in which moments like this should wake us up.

Not to panic—but to purpose.

The message of the gospel has never been more relevant.

People are searching.

Wondering.

Questioning.

And that creates opportunity.

An opportunity to:

Share truth
Offer hope
Point people to Christ

The “keys of the kingdom” are not abstract.

They are the message of the gospel—able to transform lives even in uncertain times.

4. Live with Compassion

It’s easy to view global events from a distance.

But behind every headline are real people.

Families.

Communities.

Lives disrupted by conflict and uncertainty.

Scripture calls us to respond with compassion.

To pray:

For innocent civilians
For those in harm’s way
For both Israelis and Palestinians
For people across the Middle East

And ultimately:

To pray for spiritual awakening.

5. Live with Hope

This is where everything comes together.

Because the Bible does not end with conflict.

It ends with restoration.

A coming kingdom.

A future where Jesus Christ reigns.

The prophet Isaiah describes a day when:

“Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.”

That day is still ahead.

And Israel will be central to that future.

Jerusalem will not always be a place of tension.

It will one day be the center of peace under the rule of Christ.

A Final Thought

The world may feel uncertain.

But your life doesn’t have to be.

Because when your trust is in Christ:

Your foundation is secure
Your purpose is clear
And your future is certain

The Real Invitation

So as you watch the news…

As you follow the developments…

Don’t just ask what it all means for the world.

Ask what it means for you.

Because ultimately, the most important question is not about global events.

It’s this:

Is Christ ruling and reigning in your life today?

Looking Forward

The story God is writing is not finished.

And one day, it will lead to a kingdom where:

Peace is permanent
Justice is complete
And Christ reigns as King

Until then…

We live faithfully.

We pray consistently.

And we trust completely.

Because even in uncertain times—

God is still in control.

When events unfold as quickly and dramatically as they have in recent days, it’s natural to ask:

What is really going on?

Is this just politics?

Just history repeating itself?

Or is there something more?

For those who take Scripture seriously, that question matters.

Because the Bible doesn’t just tell us what has happened.

It also helps us understand what is happening—and where things are going.

A World That Feels Unstable

If you step back for a moment, it’s hard to ignore the sense that things are shifting.

Tensions in the Middle East
Rising global uncertainty
Increasing hostility toward Israel
A growing sense that the world is more fragile than it used to be

None of this feels random.

And according to the Bible, it isn’t.

God Is Not Reacting—He Is Reigning

One of the most important truths Scripture gives us is this:

God is not reacting to world events.

He is ruling over them.

In Daniel 4:35, we’re reminded:

“He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth.”

That means nothing we’re witnessing is outside His awareness.

Nothing is outside His authority.

And nothing is outside His plan.

Prophecy Is Not Meant to Create Panic

When people hear words like “prophecy” or “end times,” they often think of fear, speculation, or wild predictions.

But that’s not the purpose of biblical prophecy.

Prophecy is not given to scare us.

It’s given to steady us.

Jesus Himself said in Matthew 24 that there would be:

Wars
Rumors of wars
Nations rising against nations

But He also made something clear:

“See to it that you are not alarmed.”

In other words, these things are not signs that God has lost control.

They are reminders that He is carrying out His plan.

Israel at the Center of the Story

One of the clearest ways to understand current events is to recognize this:

Israel is not just another nation in the news.

Israel sits at the center of God’s redemptive plan.

That’s why:

It remains the focus of global attention
It is often surrounded by conflict
And it continues to be a point of tension among nations

The prophet Zechariah described a future where Jerusalem would become:

“a cup of trembling to all the surrounding peoples.”

That language feels strikingly relevant today.

What We’re Seeing Right Now

So what should we make of the current moment?

We should be careful not to overstate things.

Not every conflict is the fulfillment of a specific prophecy.

Not every headline maps directly to a biblical event.

But at the same time, we shouldn’t ignore the bigger picture.

What we are seeing may very well be:

A continued movement toward the conditions Scripture describes.

Not the final chapter…

But part of the unfolding story.

The Bigger Perspective

The Bible tells a long story.

A story that includes:

Creation
Rebellion
Redemption
And ultimately restoration

And at the center of that story is Jesus Christ.

Everything we see in our world today fits somewhere within that larger narrative.

Even when we don’t understand all the details.

What This Means for Us

So how should we respond?

Not with fear.

Not with speculation.

But with clarity and conviction.

We are called to:

Stay grounded in Scripture
Keep a steady perspective
Avoid being swept up in every headline

And most importantly:

Keep our trust in the God who is writing the story

A Personal Question

Moments like this also bring the conversation closer to home.

Because it’s one thing to ask:

“What is happening in the world?”

It’s another to ask:

“Where do I stand in God’s story?”

The Bible doesn’t just describe global events.

It calls each of us to respond personally.

We are called to pray for it.

Temporary political peace
And lasting, God-established peace

What we often see in our world is the first—not the second.

“Maybe this is it. Maybe things are finally settling down.”

But the Bible encourages a more measured perspective.

Peace is pursued

This doesn’t mean every peace agreement is prophetic.

In Isaiah 9:6, we’re told that the Messiah will be called:

Pray for peace in the Middle East

Pray for protection over innocent lives

Remember where true peace comes from

There’s a stability available to us even when the world feels uncertain.

Not because everything around us is resolved…

But because we know the One who ultimately brings resolution.

Are we watching Bible prophecy unfold right now?

Is the current conflict involving Iran the battle described in Ezekiel 38?

It’s an important question.

And it deserves a careful, Scripture-based answer.

What Ezekiel 38 Actually Says

In Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39, the Bible describes a future invasion of Israel by a coalition of nations.

Among those nations is one that is clearly identified:

Persia.

That name is significant.

Persia is the ancient name for what we now call Iran.

So there’s no question about this:

Iran is part of a prophetic picture that Scripture describes.

But that leads us to the next—and more important—question:

Is what we’re seeing today the fulfillment of that prophecy?

The Key Detail Many People Miss

To answer that, we need to pay attention to the details in the text.

Ezekiel describes a time when Israel is:

Living in the land
Gathered from many nations
And—this is critical—dwelling in safety and security

That last detail matters.

Because when this invasion takes place, the people of Israel are described as:

Living in unwalled villages
At rest
Not expecting an attack

Does That Describe Israel Today?

No.

Israel today is strong, resilient, and highly developed in its security systems.

But it is not living in a sense of peace or safety.

If anything, the opposite is true.

The nation remains on constant alert—defending itself from threats on multiple fronts.

So while the current situation is serious…

It does not match the conditions Ezekiel describes.

What We May Be Seeing Instead

If this isn’t the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38, then what is it?

The best way to understand it is this:

What we’re seeing today may be a setup—not the event itself.

We are watching:

Nations aligning in new ways
Tensions increasing
A growing desire for peace and stability in the region

All of those things matter.

Because Scripture points to a time when a sense of peace will exist…

And then be disrupted suddenly.

A Pattern to Pay Attention To

The Bible often describes future events not just by what happens—but by what leads up to them.

And one of those patterns is this:

A movement toward peace…

Followed by unexpected conflict.

That doesn’t mean we can assign a timeline.

But it does mean we should be paying attention—not with fear, but with discernment.

God’s Purpose in It All

There’s something else in Ezekiel 38 that we can’t overlook.

When this future battle takes place, God intervenes in a decisive way.

And the result is clear:

The nations recognize who He is.

Again and again in Ezekiel, God says:

“Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

That’s the ultimate purpose.

Not just geopolitical change.

But spiritual recognition.

What This Means for Israel’s Future

This passage reminds us that Israel remains central in God’s unfolding plan.

The nation’s existence today is not accidental.

To make sense of what’s happening today, we need to look deeper—particularly at the beliefs that shape the nation’s leadership and direction.

It’s easy to assume that the conflict surrounding Iran is primarily political.

In reality, much of it is deeply religious and ideological.

Iran is governed by a form of Islam known as Shiite Islam, and more specifically a branch often referred to as Twelver Shi'ism.

Within the Muslim world, there are two primary groups:

Leaders come and go.

Pray for those in leadership, that decisions would be restrained from evil

At first glance, it’s hard to imagine how ancient Persia—modern-day Iran—connects directly to the life of Jesus.

But when you follow the thread of Scripture carefully, you discover something remarkable:

God was weaving Persia into His plan long before Jesus was born.

And not just generally…

But with stunning precision.

A Decree That Changed History

Nearly 450 years before the time of Christ, a Persian king named Artaxerxes issued a decree.

It was a political decision at the time—to allow the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls after they had been destroyed.

That moment might seem like just another historical detail.

But the prophet Daniel had already pointed to it.

He wrote that from the time the decree would go out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem… a countdown would begin.

A Prophecy Measured in Days

Daniel described a period of “seven sevens and sixty-two sevens”—a timeline that adds up to 483 years.

But in the Jewish calendar, those years are measured in 360-day cycles.

That brings the total to 173,880 days .

And here’s where it gets remarkable.

From the exact moment of that Persian decree…

Count forward 173,880 days…

And you arrive at the very day Jesus entered Jerusalem—riding on a donkey—to begin what we now call Passion Week.

The week He would be crucified.

Not a Coincidence

Let that sink in for a moment.

A Persian king makes a decree.

A Jewish prophet records a timeline.

And centuries later, Jesus fulfills it—on the exact day.

That’s not coincidence.

That’s the precision of God’s plan.

It reminds us that history is not random.

It is directed.

The Magi: Another Persian Connection

And the connection doesn’t stop there.

When Jesus was born, who came looking for Him?

The Magi—from the East.

Most scholars believe they came from the region of ancient Persia.

They arrived in Jerusalem asking a bold question:

“Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews?”

How did they know to ask that?

Because the Jewish Scriptures had been present in that region for generations—dating back to the time of exile and Persian rule.

In other words…

The seeds of truth had been planted there long before.

What we see in all of this is something deeply encouraging.

God’s plan was never confined to one place.

Even as He worked uniquely through Israel, He was also preparing people in other nations to recognize the Messiah when He came.

Persia—again—becomes part of that story.

A nation far from Jerusalem…

Yet still drawn into the moment when the Savior of the world arrived.

What This Means for Us

There’s something steadying about this.

In a world that often feels chaotic, Scripture reminds us:

God is not reacting. He is orchestrating.

The same God who aligned history down to the exact day of Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem…

Is still at work today.

And What It Means for Israel’s Future

This also reinforces something we must not miss:

God’s promises to Israel are not random or symbolic.

They are precise.

They are intentional.

And they are still unfolding.

The same God who fulfilled prophecy down to the day in the first coming of Christ…

Will fulfill what He has promised for the future as well.

Including what lies ahead for Israel.

When you look at the connection between Persia and Jesus, you begin to see Scripture differently.

It’s not just a collection of stories.

It’s a unified, unfolding plan.

A plan that spans centuries.

A plan that crosses nations.

A plan that leads directly to Christ.

A young Jewish woman, seemingly unknown and unlikely, becomes queen in the Persian empire. Through a series of events that could only be described as providential, she is positioned to save her people from destruction.

God’s name is never mentioned.

And yet His presence is unmistakable.

Every detail—from Esther’s rise to Mordecai’s courage to the downfall of Haman—reveals a God who is actively working behind the scenes.

That doesn’t mean every current event directly fulfills prophecy.

But it does mean this:

Nothing happening there is outside of God’s awareness—or His control.

And that should shape how we respond.

Not with fear.

Not with speculation.

But with confidence in a God who has been working through nations like Persia for thousands of years.

You stand in places like:

Where He wept.

Where He gave His life.

And suddenly, the story of Scripture doesn’t feel distant anymore.

It’s a fair question. And it deserves a thoughtful, biblical answer.

A Growing Curiosity About Prophecy

As conflict intensifies in the Middle East, interest in Bible prophecy is rising alongside it. Pastors, scholars, and even journalists are beginning to ask whether what we are seeing today aligns with the prophetic events described in Scripture.

The battle of Gog and Magog is one of the most discussed—and often misunderstood—prophecies in the Old Testament. Found in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39, it describes a future invasion of Israel by a coalition of nations.

But is that what we’re seeing right now?

What Ezekiel Actually Describes

Ezekiel paints a very specific picture.

Israel is invaded by a large, coordinated alliance of nations coming primarily from the north, along with forces from the east and parts of Africa. Persia—modern-day Iran—is clearly named among them.

But Persia is only one piece of a much larger coalition.

Other regions mentioned in the passage are often associated with areas that today include:

Russia and regions north of the Black Sea
Turkey
Parts of North Africa

In other words, this is not a single-nation conflict. It is a massive, unified invasion from multiple directions.

Why This War Doesn’t Fit—At Least Not Yet

While Iran is certainly involved in the current conflict, several key elements of Ezekiel’s prophecy are missing.

1. The Scale of the Coalition

Right now, the conflict is primarily centered on Israel, Iran, and limited involvement from allies. The full coalition described in Ezekiel is not yet present in any direct, unified way.

2. Israel’s Condition

Ezekiel tells us that when this future invasion happens, Israel will be:

Dwelling in safety
Living in unwalled villages
Experiencing a sense of peace and security

That is clearly not the case today.

Israel remains one of the most security-conscious nations in the world, actively defending itself on multiple fronts.

3. The Nature of the Attack

In Ezekiel’s account, Israel is overwhelmed by a sudden, massive invasion. The people cry out to God, and He intervenes dramatically—through natural and supernatural means—to deliver them.

What we are seeing today, while serious and sobering, does not match that scale or outcome.

So What Are We Seeing?

If this is not the battle of Gog and Magog, then what is it?

The best way to understand the current moment is this:

It may be a precursor. A foreshadowing. A reminder.

What is happening today reflects the trajectory Scripture describes. The nations are aligning. Tensions are increasing. Israel remains at the center of global attention—just as the Bible said it would.

But the final events described in Ezekiel have not yet fully arrived.

Why This Still Matters

Even if this is not the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38–39, it should not be dismissed.

Moments like this remind us that:

God’s Word speaks not only to the past, but also to the future
The world is not moving randomly—it is moving purposefully
What Scripture has foretold will come to pass in God’s timing

This is not a call to panic.

It is a call to pay attention.

A Personal Challenge

In times like these, it’s easy to focus entirely on headlines. But Scripture invites us to go deeper.

The Apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to be someone who “rightly divides the word of truth.” In other words, know what God’s Word actually says.

That matters now more than ever.

Because understanding Scripture:

Anchors us in uncertain times
Guards us from confusion and speculation
Points us toward hope—not fear

A Call to Prayer

Above all, this moment calls for prayer.

Pray for:

Peace in Jerusalem
Protection for innocent civilians on all sides
Believers in Iran, many of whom are quietly growing in faith under difficult conditions
Leaders and decision-makers, that wisdom would guide their actions

And pray that, even in the midst of conflict, hearts would turn toward the One who ultimately brings peace.

Final Thought

The pages of Scripture are not just history—they are also prophecy.

And while we may not be seeing the battle of Gog and Magog today, we are certainly being reminded of this truth:

God is still in control.

And His plan is still unfolding—right on schedule.

As believers, moments like this naturally raise questions.

What does this mean for the future?

How should we understand these events?

And most importantly, what does Scripture say about times like these?

The Bible does not give us a day-by-day explanation of current events, but it does give us a framework for understanding the world when tensions rise and nations move toward conflict.

An Unusual Moment During the Feast of Purim

Interestingly, these developments have unfolded during the Jewish festival of Purim, a holiday that commemorates one of the most remarkable deliverances in Jewish history.

Purim remembers the events recorded in the book of Esther, when the Jewish people living under Persian rule faced a plot to destroy them. A powerful official named Haman sought the elimination of every Jewish man, woman, and child throughout the Persian Empire. Yet through the courage of Queen Esther and the unseen providence of God, the plan was overturned and the Jewish people were preserved.

Purim ultimately celebrates the truth that God protects His covenant people and works behind the scenes of history.

It is difficult not to notice the timing of recent events as that ancient story is being remembered around the world.

For many observers, the developments in Iran over the past few days feel strikingly significant.

But whether events unfold quickly or slowly from here, the deeper lesson remains the same: God is still sovereign over history.

The World’s Attention Turns Again Toward Israel

Jerusalem has long been the focal point of global tension, and Scripture tells us that this will continue to be true.

The Bible describes a time when the nations of the world will increasingly focus their attention on Israel and Jerusalem. The prophet Zechariah writes that Jerusalem will become “a cup of trembling” for the nations. The psalmist asks in Psalm 2, “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?”

Jesus himself warned that the period before His return would include wars and rumors of wars, along with increasing turmoil among nations.

For those who follow Scripture closely, the tensions we see today remind us that history is moving toward a future that God has already revealed in His Word.

Developments on the Ground

Reports from the past 48 hours indicate that military operations have significantly impacted Iran’s missile infrastructure and military capabilities.

According to several sources, a large portion of Iran’s ballistic missile supply has been destroyed, and hundreds of strategic targets connected to missile systems, air defenses, and military leadership have been struck.

While the situation remains fluid, many observers believe the coming days may determine whether the Iranian regime continues to hold power or whether internal pressure leads to significant political change.

At the same time, retaliatory strikes and regional tensions remind us that conflict always brings uncertainty and risk—especially for civilians who find themselves caught in the middle.

That is why this moment calls not only for careful observation, but for earnest prayer.

How Should We Respond?

When the world feels unstable, Scripture calls believers to respond in ways that are very different from the reactions we often see in public discourse.

We respond first by trusting God.

Proverbs reminds us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

In times when the future feels uncertain, that command becomes especially meaningful.

We also respond by praying.

Pray for innocent civilians throughout the region.

Pray for wisdom for leaders making critical decisions.

Pray for peace and restraint in moments when tensions could easily escalate further.

And perhaps most importantly, pray for spiritual awakening.

A Remarkable Spiritual Movement

One of the most encouraging developments of recent years has been the growth of the Christian faith inside Iran itself.

Despite decades of oppression and strict control by the government, the Gospel has quietly spread among the Iranian people. Some estimates suggest that millions of Iranians are now exploring the message of Christ, making the Iranian church one of the fastest-growing Christian movements in the world.

In times of political upheaval, people often begin asking deeper questions about life, truth, and hope.

And that is when the message of Christ shines most brightly.

Remembering the Larger Story

No one can say with certainty what the coming days or weeks will bring.

But believers can rest in a truth that has remained constant throughout history:

God is still in control.

Empires rise and fall.

Leaders come and go.

Nations change direction.

Yet through every generation, God continues to work out His purposes.

In moments of uncertainty like this, we remember that history ultimately belongs to Him.

We pray for peace.

We pray for protection.

And we pray that many people—throughout the Middle East and around the world—will come to know the One who alone can bring lasting peace.

The day is coming when the Prince of Peace will reign.

Until that day, we watch carefully, we pray faithfully, and we place our trust in the God who holds the future.

In the past few days, the world has been watching the Middle East very carefully.

The United States and Israel have launched coordinated military strikes against targets inside Iran, dramatically escalating tensions in a region that has already been under tremendous strain for many years. News reports continue to unfold, and many people are asking the same question:

What happens next?

Whenever events like this occur, it is important for believers to step back from the noise of headlines and consider what is happening through the lens of Scripture.

An Interesting Moment on the Biblical Calendar

One of the things that immediately came to mind when these events began unfolding is the timing.

The Jewish festival of Purim is just around the corner. Purim remembers the events recorded in the book of Esther, when the Jewish people were living under Persian rule and faced a plot to destroy them.

Reports from the early stages of the operation indicate that a number of significant targets inside Iran have already been struck, and the situation continues to develop.

As always in moments like this, the future remains uncertain.

How Should Believers Respond?

When world events feel unstable, it is easy for people to react with fear, anger, or speculation.

But Scripture calls believers to respond in a different way.

First, we are called to pray .

Pray for those who are in harm’s way throughout the Middle East.

Pray for innocent civilians whose lives are affected by decisions made by governments and military leaders.

Pray for wisdom for those who are making difficult decisions during these tense days.

But we also pray for something deeper.

We pray for spiritual awakening.

In recent years, there have been increasing reports that many people inside Iran are searching for spiritual truth and turning to Christ in surprising numbers. Even in the midst of political oppression and cultural pressure, the Gospel continues to spread quietly among people who are hungry for hope.

Moments of upheaval sometimes become moments when people begin asking deeper questions about life, faith, and the future.

And that is something believers can pray for with great hope.

Remember Who Holds History

Throughout Scripture, God’s people lived in a world shaped by empires, wars, and shifting political alliances.

Yet again and again, the Bible reminds us of a simple but powerful truth:

God is still in control.

Kings rise and fall. Nations change course. World events move quickly and sometimes unexpectedly.

But none of it happens outside the knowledge and sovereignty of God.

That is why believers can face uncertain times with both seriousness and hope.

We pray for peace.

We pray for protection.

And we pray that many people—throughout the Middle East and around the world—will come to know the One who alone can bring lasting peace.

Scripture reminds us that one day the Prince of Peace will reign.

Jerusalem at Night: Reflections on Shabbat in the Holy City

Shabbat in Jerusalem offers a unique experience of rest, worship, and community, reminding believers of God’s design for rhythm, reflection, and renewal.

After a full day in Jerusalem, I stepped outside from my hotel room to look at the Old City—this time under the lights of night.

It was nearly eight o’clock, and the city had taken on a completely different atmosphere.

The massive walls of Jerusalem, built in the sixteenth century during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, were beautifully illuminated. The stone glowed softly in the evening light, wrapping around the Old City just as it has for centuries.

From where I stood near Jaffa Gate, you could follow the path of the walls as they circled the city. Moving northward you would come to the New Gate, then Damascus Gate, and further along to Herod’s Gate. Continuing around the eastern side stands St. Stephen’s Gate, often called the Lion’s Gate.

And then there is one gate that remains closed—the Golden Gate, also known as the Eastern Gate.

Jewish tradition says that when the Messiah comes, he will enter Jerusalem through that gate. Scripture does not specifically say that, but the tradition has been strong for centuries. In fact, long ago a cemetery was built in front of the gate, an attempt by some to prevent such an entrance from ever taking place.

But of course, when God accomplishes his purposes, no earthly obstacle will stand in the way.

Standing there in the evening air, looking at those ancient walls, I was reminded once again how many generations have walked this land and how deeply history is woven into every corner of Jerusalem.

Yet what made that evening especially meaningful was something happening all across the city.

It was Shabbat.

For Jewish families, Shabbat begins Friday evening and continues until sundown on Saturday. All over Jerusalem, families were gathering together for the traditional Shabbat meal.

Hotels were filled with families meeting for dinner. Grandparents, parents, children—and sometimes even great-grandparents—sat down together to share a meal that is both festive and deeply meaningful.

The food is abundant. The atmosphere is joyful. But Shabbat is about far more than a meal.

In Jewish homes, families gather around the table to pray, read Scripture, and recite traditional blessings together. It is a time intentionally set apart from the busyness of life—a time to focus on God and to enjoy being together as a family.

Years ago, I had the privilege of joining a Jewish family in Jerusalem for a Shabbat meal. It remains one of my most memorable experiences in Israel. The prayers, the readings, the sense of reverence and gratitude—it all pointed back to God’s command given long ago:

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.”

There is something powerful about that rhythm.

In a world where many people feel they must work constantly—seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day—Scripture reminds us that we were never meant to live that way.

God built rest into the rhythm of life.

Setting aside a day to focus on the Lord, to worship, and to be with family is not merely a tradition. It is a gift.

Whether someone observes that day on Saturday, Sunday, or another day of the week, the principle remains the same: we all need time to step back, refocus our priorities, and remember the One who gives us life.

That evening in Jerusalem, as Shabbat began across the city, I was reminded again how valuable that practice is.

It restores the soul.

It reorients the heart.

And it reminds us that our lives are ultimately centered not on our work, but on our relationship with God.

As the evening came to a close, I found myself praying once again for the people of this land—for Israelis and Palestinians alike—that they might experience not only moments of rest, but the deeper peace that comes through the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

Jerusalem has a way of stirring those prayers.

And for all of us who were walking the streets of the city that week, it was another reminder of how meaningful it is to experience the land of the Bible firsthand.

Ending the Journey Where Faith Meets History

As our tour continued, we visited several of the most significant locations in and around Jerusalem.

We traveled to Bethlehem, where the Church of the Nativity marks the traditional location of Jesus’ birth. Walking through the narrow streets of the town and descending into the ancient church reminds you how humble the beginning of the Gospel story truly was.

Later we explored the Old City of Jerusalem at night, when the stone streets grow quiet and the ancient walls seem to hold centuries of prayer within them.

Our final stop together brought us to one of the most recognizable locations in the entire city: the Western Wall.

Standing there is a powerful experience. For the Jewish people, it is the closest accessible place to the site where the Temple once stood. For many visitors, it becomes a place of reflection and prayer.

Watching people gather there—some quietly praying, others placing written prayers into the stones of the wall—you are reminded that Jerusalem has always been a city where faith and history meet.

As our journey came to an end, I found myself reflecting once again on why bringing pastors and Christian leaders to Israel matters so much.

When you walk the land of the Bible, the Scriptures take on new depth.

Places you have read about for years suddenly become real locations.

Stories you have taught many times take on fresh clarity.

And the unfolding story of God’s work in history becomes more vivid.

That is why we continue to invite pastors and ministry leaders to experience this land firsthand.

Israel is more than a destination.

It is a classroom.

It is a place of reflection.

And for many, it becomes a deeply spiritual journey that strengthens their faith and their ministry.

Every time I leave the Holy Land, I carry with me the same prayer—that what we experience here will deepen our understanding of Scripture and renew our commitment to the Lord who revealed himself in this land.

And that, in the end, is what makes the journey so meaningful.

Jerusalem: A City That Fills the Heart With Joy — and Prayer

Jerusalem fills the heart with both joy and sorrow, reminding believers of its biblical significance and the need for prayer for peace and spiritual renewal.

One of the most meaningful moments of our Fall 2025 Holy Land tour came on the day we arrived in Jerusalem.

I remember sitting just outside the walls of the Old City, looking toward Jaffa Gate. From that vantage point you can see the massive stone wall stretching south and west around the ancient city. Just nearby stands the Tower of David and the Citadel Museum, and beyond that rise the spires of several churches. In the distance, you can even see the Mount of Olives.

One of the most meaningful moments of our Fall 2025 Holy Land tour came on the day we arrived in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem has a way of stirring the heart the moment you arrive.

Every time I come here, I experience two emotions at once.

On the one hand, there is great joy. I love this land. I love walking through the places where the events of Scripture unfolded. Being here brings the Bible to life in ways that are difficult to describe.

But at the same time, there is also a deep sadness.

Jesus himself expressed that same emotion as he looked over this city from the Mount of Olives. In the Gospel of Matthew he said:

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.”

Jesus went on to say something sobering:

“Your house is left to you desolate.”

Those words became painfully true throughout history.

In 70 A.D., the Romans invaded and destroyed Jerusalem. Decades later, after another revolt, the city was burned again. The Roman emperor Hadrian even renamed the region Syria Palestina, intentionally removing references to Israel and the Jewish people from the name of the land.

For nearly 1,900 years, the land was known by that name.

But history took a remarkable turn in 1948, when the modern state of Israel was reborn. Since that time, the land has flourished again in extraordinary ways—agriculturally, economically, and culturally.

When you travel through Israel today, you see that renewal everywhere.

Yet Scripture reminds us that something even deeper still lies ahead.

The prophet Ezekiel describes a time when the people first return to the land, and then God gives them a new heart. In other words, the physical restoration of the land comes first, followed by a spiritual awakening.

Standing there in Jerusalem, looking at those ancient walls, that promise came to mind again.

The land has come back to life.

But the greater prayer is that the people will come to faith.

That is why Jerusalem does more than inspire admiration—it calls us to pray.

To pray for Israelis and Palestinians.

To pray for peace in the land.

And most of all, to pray for spiritual awakening.

As our group stood in Jerusalem that day, we were also mindful of the tensions and heartbreak that still affect the region. Families were grieving. Communities were waiting for loved ones to return. The realities of conflict and uncertainty remain very present in daily life.

Moments like that remind us that the deepest peace this world longs for will ultimately come only through the Prince of Peace.

Until that day, we pray.

We pray for healing.

We pray for reconciliation.

We pray that many in this land will come to know Jesus.

And for those of us who had the privilege of standing there together, that moment became a powerful reminder of why journeys like this matter.

Walking through the land of the Bible doesn’t just deepen our understanding of Scripture.

It also deepens our compassion for the people who live there today.

The Bible Comes to Life: Our First Days in Israel

Visiting Israel brings the Bible to life by connecting Scripture to real places, helping pastors and believers see its history, geography, and meaning more clearly.

One of my favorite places to begin a journey through Israel is the ancient city of Caesarea by the Sea.

When our Fall 2025 tour first arrived there, it immediately reminded me why this location is such a meaningful starting point.

Standing in Caesarea, you are surrounded by layers of history.

Behind us were the remains of a magnificent Roman theater built by Herod the Great nearly two thousand years ago. Even today, the structure still serves its original purpose. Concerts are held there, and thousands of people gather in the same place where audiences once sat during the days of the Roman Empire.

Just beyond the theater, the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea stretch out to the west. Along the shoreline are the remnants of Herod’s palace, and nearby the ruins of an enormous hippodrome, where chariot races once took place.

It was a breathtaking way to begin the tour.

Caesarea has a unique way of welcoming people to the land of the Bible. The setting is beautiful. The archaeology is remarkably preserved. And the history is deeply connected to the story of the early church. It was here that the apostle Paul once stood before Roman authorities and defended his faith.

Moments like that remind me why bringing pastors to Israel matters so much.

When you stand in these places, the Bible stops feeling distant.

The geography becomes real.

The story of Scripture begins to unfold in a new way.

Our group had just arrived in Israel for the Fall Holy Land tour, and Caesarea was our first opportunity to begin walking through the land where the events of the Bible actually took place. Over the days that followed we would travel through deserts and ancient cities, along the Sea of Galilee, and eventually to Jerusalem itself.

But even on that first day, I was reminded of something important.

Several of the pastors traveling with us were able to participate in the tour because of the generosity of people who support Walk the Bible.

Through those gifts, a number of pastors received scholarships that made the trip possible. That kind of support is making a real difference. It allows leaders to walk the land of Scripture, deepen their understanding of the Bible, and return home with renewed insight for the churches they serve.

So to those who have supported this ministry, thank you.

Your generosity helped make that moment in Caesarea possible for pastors who otherwise might never have experienced it.

There is something extraordinary about standing in these places where the story of Scripture unfolded.

Traveling Through the Land of the Bible

After leaving Caesarea, the days that followed took us through some of the most meaningful locations in all of Scripture.

One of the unique aspects of traveling through Israel is how quickly the landscape changes. Within a short drive you can move from fertile farmland to desert wilderness, from bustling modern cities to ancient ruins that date back thousands of years.

Our journey took us south toward Beersheba and into the Negev Desert, a landscape that helps you understand the wandering years of Israel in an entirely new way. In places like that, the stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob feel much closer than they do when you are reading them from thousands of miles away.

From there our group crossed into Jordan, where we visited the remarkable city of Petra. Carved into towering sandstone cliffs, Petra stands as one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world. Walking through its narrow canyon passageways and emerging into the vast open courtyards gives you a sense of the ancient civilizations that once flourished in this region.

Our journey continued to Bethany Beyond the Jordan, traditionally identified as the place where John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Standing along the Jordan River, reflecting on that moment in the Gospels, is something many travelers find deeply moving.

Later in the week we visited the ancient tel of Jericho, one of the oldest cities in the world. The layers of archaeological remains tell a story of conquest, rebuilding, and the long unfolding of biblical history.

One of the most memorable moments for many in our group came during a baptism service at Gan Hashlosha, where several pastors renewed their commitment to Christ in the waters of the region. Moments like that are difficult to describe. They remind us that the Bible is not only a historical record—it is a living message that continues to shape lives today.

As the week continued, we traveled north to the Sea of Galilee, where so much of Jesus’ earthly ministry took place. Watching the sunrise over those waters is something I never grow tired of seeing.

From there we visited Nazareth, including Nazareth Village, where life in a first-century Jewish town is recreated in remarkable detail. Walking through those streets helps you imagine the world in which Jesus grew up.

By the time we eventually made our way south again toward Jerusalem, the group had already experienced a full week of walking through the geography of Scripture.

And yet, in many ways, the most powerful moments of the journey were still ahead.

The Messiah the Scriptures Were Waiting For

By the time you reach the end of the Old Testament, a certain kind of longing begins to build.

You feel it in the promises.

You hear it in the prophets.

You see it in the unfinished ache of the story.

Someone is coming.

Not just another king.

Not just another prophet.

Not just another voice in Israel’s history.

The Scriptures are preparing us for One who will fulfill what no one else could.

And when Jesus steps onto the scene, the New Testament writers want us to see something clearly: He is not a break from that story. He is its fulfillment.

More Than a Few Coincidences

Scholars have long observed how many Old Testament prophecies find their fulfillment in Jesus.

Some estimates place the number above 300.

That can sound abstract at first. But the deeper point is not the math. The deeper point is the pattern.

Again and again, the promises given through centuries of Scripture come into focus in one life.

His birth.

His ministry.

His suffering.

His resurrection.

His future reign.

The story keeps narrowing. The expectations keep sharpening. And Jesus keeps meeting them in ways that are too specific, too layered, and too meaningful to dismiss as coincidence.

Even His Birth Was Marked by Promise

The story begins before Bethlehem.

God had promised Abraham that through his offspring all the peoples of the earth would be blessed. That means from the very beginning, the story of Israel was never meant to end with Israel alone. It was always moving outward toward the world.

And then the prophet Isaiah speaks of a virgin who will conceive and bear a son called Immanuel — God with us.

Micah tells us that Bethlehem, small as it is, will be the birthplace of the coming ruler.

Even Hosea’s words, “Out of Egypt I called my son,” find new depth when the child Jesus is taken there and later returns.

What do we do with all of that?

We see that the birth of Jesus was not simply beautiful. It was deeply prepared.

He was born into the world already surrounded by promise.

His Ministry Carried the Shape of Prophecy

The same is true of His public ministry.

The prophets had spoken of light dawning in Galilee. Jesus begins His ministry there.

They had spoken of One who would open blind eyes, unstop deaf ears, and bring hope to the poor. Jesus did exactly that.

They had spoken of a voice crying out in the wilderness to prepare the way of the Lord. John the Baptist comes and does just that, pointing beyond himself to Jesus.

Even His teaching matched the pattern.

The Psalms spoke of one who would speak in parables, drawing out hidden things. And again and again, Jesus taught that way — stories carrying truth, familiar images filled with eternal meaning.

This is one of the beautiful things about the Gospels: Jesus does not simply arrive and start something new. He steps into a script that has been unfolding for centuries.

The Cross Was Not a Detour

Perhaps nowhere is this clearer than in His suffering and death.

Isaiah 53 describes a servant who would be despised and rejected, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.

Zechariah speaks of a king coming humbly into Jerusalem on a donkey. Jesus enters the city that way as crowds shout His praise.

The same prophetic stream speaks of betrayal, of thirty pieces of silver, of those coins ending up tied to a potter’s field. The Gospel writers make clear that these things were not accidental details. They were part of a pattern already written.

The Psalms speak of pierced hands and feet.

Numbers gives the strange image of a lifted serpent in the wilderness — a symbol Jesus Himself uses to explain His own lifting up on the cross.

And when you see all of that together, the cross begins to look less like a tragic interruption and more like the center of God’s redemptive plan.

The suffering of Jesus was not outside the story.

It was the story coming into focus.

The Resurrection Was Promised, Too

And still the story does not end at the cross.

The Old Testament had already whispered of resurrection.

Psalm 16 says that God’s Holy One would not be abandoned to the grave or allowed to see decay. The early church read that and saw in it the promise of Easter morning.

So when the tomb stood empty, the disciples were not inventing a meaning after the fact. They were beginning to understand what had been there all along.

Jesus had not only died as the promised Messiah.

He had risen as the promised Messiah.

That changes everything.

Because a dead Savior can inspire admiration.

A risen Savior commands trust.

And the Story Still Moves Forward

The prophecies fulfilled in Jesus are not only about what has happened. Some point ahead to what is still to come.

The Old Testament speaks of a coming Judge who will rule with justice.

It speaks of a new covenant.

It speaks of a reign that has not yet reached its fullest earthly expression.

And the New Testament picks up those threads and says: yes, this too belongs to Jesus.

He is the One who inaugurates the new covenant through His blood.

He is the One who will judge with righteousness.

He is the One in whom all the unfinished hopes of Scripture are not abandoned, but secured.

So when we talk about prophecy, we are not merely talking about prediction. We are talking about promise. And those promises do not float in the air. They find their center in a person.

Why This Matters

This matters for more than apologetics.

Yes, fulfilled prophecy strengthens confidence in the reliability of Scripture. It reminds us that God speaks truthfully and acts faithfully in history. That is important.

But it also matters devotionally.

Because once you begin to see how the whole Bible bends toward Jesus, your view of Him changes.

He is not only the teacher in Galilee.

Not only the miracle worker.

Not only the suffering Savior on the cross.

He is the long-awaited One.

The One Abraham’s story was stretching toward.

The One the prophets kept describing in fragments and glimpses.

The One Israel was waiting for, even when the waiting was misunderstood.

That realization deepens worship.

It turns admiration into awe.

Not Contrived. Revealed.

Sometimes people wonder whether Christians are simply reading Jesus back into the Old Testament.

But the more closely you read, the more that explanation begins to fall apart.

This is not about forcing disconnected verses into artificial meaning. It is about recognizing that Jesus’ life, words, actions, suffering, and resurrection compelled His followers to reread the Scriptures and say, This is the One.

He did not merely resemble the promises.

He fulfilled them.

That is why the New Testament keeps returning to this refrain: so that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

Again and again, the writers are saying the same thing in different ways:

This is Him.

This is the One.

This is the Messiah the Scriptures were waiting for.

What We Do With That

And that leaves us with a response.

Not just to nod.

Not just to admire the elegance of the connections.

But to trust Him.

Because if Jesus truly is the One promised through the ages, then He is not someone to keep at a distance.

He is the One to receive.

The One to worship.

The One to follow.

The law pointed to Him.

The sacrifices anticipated Him.

The feasts foreshadowed Him.

The prophets announced Him.

And now the question comes to us: what will we do with Him?

The End of the Series — and the Beginning of Wonder

This is what makes Jesus unlike anyone else.

He does not simply appear in the Bible.

He fills it.

He fulfills it.

He stands at the center of it.

That means the Scriptures are not a scattered collection of religious ideas looking for unity.

Their unity has a name.

Jesus.

And once you begin to see Him that way, you really do begin to know Him like you never have before.

Sometimes the Bible tells its story through words.

And sometimes it tells its story through patterns.

Through calendars.

Through symbols.

Through sacred moments that seem, at first glance, like ancient religious customs — but turn out to be full of meaning.

That is exactly what we find in the feasts of Israel.

At first, these feasts may seem distant from our lives. Old rituals. Ancient observances. Details tucked away in Leviticus. But once you begin to see what they were pointing toward, they become something far more than historical practices.

They become a testimony.

A witness.

A pattern.

A prophetic story written into the worship life of God’s people.

And at the center of that story is Jesus.

God Wrote Redemption Into the Calendar

Leviticus 23 lays out seven feasts given by God to Israel.

Four came in the spring.

Three came in the fall.

They were not random. They were not merely cultural traditions that developed over time. Scripture presents them as divinely appointed moments. God built them into the life of His people with timing, sequence, and meaning.

And when you step back and look at them together, something remarkable appears.

They trace the story of redemption.

The first four have already found fulfillment in the life, death, resurrection, and mission of Jesus. The last three point ahead to what is still to come.

That means the feasts are not just about Israel’s history. They are also about Christ’s work — and ultimately about the future hope of the people of God.

Passover: The Lamb Who Delivers

The first feast is Passover.

For Israel, Passover was the great remembrance of deliverance from Egypt. A lamb was slain. Its blood was placed on the doorposts. And when judgment came, those under the blood were spared.

It was a night of rescue.

A night of mercy.

A night when bondage began to break.

And in the New Testament, that whole picture comes into focus in Jesus.

He was crucified at Passover.

That is not a coincidence. It is fulfillment.

John the Baptist saw Jesus and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” Passover pointed ahead to the true Lamb — the One whose blood would not merely spare from physical death, but deliver from sin itself.

In Egypt, the people were rescued from slavery.

In Christ, we are rescued from a deeper bondage.

Unleavened Bread: The Sinless One Given for Us

Immediately after Passover came the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

For seven days, the people were to eat bread without yeast. Part of that reflected the urgency of their departure from Egypt. But Scripture also uses leaven as a picture of sin and corruption.

A little yeast works its way through the whole dough. In the same way, sin quietly spreads, distorts, and damages.

That is why unleavened bread becomes such a meaningful symbol.

It points to purity.

It points to what is uncorrupted.

It points to what is without sin.

And once again, the image finds its fulfillment in Jesus.

He is the sinless One.

The spotless One.

The One in whom there is no corruption.

And when He called Himself the Bread of Life, He was not speaking in abstract poetry. He was revealing something deep and true: He is the One our souls were made for.

Firstfruits: The Beginning of the Harvest

Then comes Firstfruits.

This feast celebrated the first part of the harvest — the opening sheaf offered to God as a sign that more was coming.

And that is what makes it such a beautiful picture of resurrection.

Paul says that Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

That means the resurrection of Jesus is not only a miracle to admire. It is a promise to lean on.

His resurrection is the first of more to come.

The grave did not merely lose one battle that morning. It began to lose its claim entirely. Jesus rose first, and because He rose, all who belong to Him live in the hope of resurrection too.

That is what Firstfruits was always hinting toward.

Pentecost: The Spirit and the Harvest

Fifty days after Passover came the Feast of Weeks, often called Pentecost.

Originally, it was associated with harvest and later tied closely to the giving of the law at Sinai. It was a feast of gratitude, remembrance, and divine provision.

And then, in Acts 2, Pentecost becomes the setting for something new.

The Spirit comes.

The church is born.

The harvest begins.

What had once been celebrated in grain and gathering is now fulfilled in people. Thousands come to faith. The message of Jesus begins going out into the world with power.

That too is not accidental.

The same God who established the feast in the Old Testament poured out His Spirit on that very day in the New Testament. Once again, the calendar was already telling the story before the story reached its fulfillment.

The Spring Feasts and the Finished Work of Christ

When you put those first four feasts together, the pattern becomes hard to miss.

Passover points to Christ’s death.

Unleavened Bread points to His sinlessness.

Firstfruits points to His resurrection.

Pentecost points to the birth of the church and the beginning of the gospel harvest.

What God instituted centuries earlier was fulfilled with stunning precision in Jesus.

That should do more than impress us.

It should steady us.

Because it means redemption is not improvised. God was not reacting. He was revealing. The story of Christ was already woven into the worship rhythms of Israel long before the cross.

The Feasts Still Ahead

That brings us to the final three feasts: Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles.

These have not yet reached their fullest fulfillment. They point forward.

The Feast of Trumpets begins the fall sequence. Scripture does not spell out every detail of its meaning, but many believers see in it a powerful anticipation of the coming call of God — the moment when the trumpet sounds and Christ gathers His people.

The Day of Atonement follows. It was the holiest day on Israel’s calendar, marked by repentance, humility, and the making of atonement. Scripture also points toward a future awakening for Israel, a day of brokenness, recognition, and grace when many will look upon the One they have pierced and mourn.

And then comes Tabernacles.

This feast remembered God’s care for Israel in the wilderness, when His people lived in temporary shelters under His preserving hand. But it also points forward to a day when God’s presence will again dwell openly with His people in fullness and glory.

Tabernacles is a feast of joy.

Of dwelling.

Of God with us.

And that, of course, brings us right back to Jesus.

Jesus Tabernacled Among Us

John says that the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

That phrase means more than simply “lived nearby.” It carries the idea of tabernacling among us.

God came near.

God took on flesh.

God entered the story.

And one day, Scripture says, Christ will reign openly and fully. What was tasted in part will be seen in fullness. The King will be known. His reign will be visible. His presence will not be hidden.

That is the hope the final feasts hold out.

Do Christians Need to Keep the Feasts?

That is an important question.

And the New Testament gives a clear answer: believers are not required to keep these feasts as binding religious obligations.

Paul says these observances were shadows of the reality that was to come, and that Christ Himself is the reality.

That does not make the feasts unimportant. Far from it.

It means we study them not as a burden to carry, but as a window into the wisdom of God. They teach us. They deepen our understanding. They strengthen our confidence that God has been unfolding one story all along.

The feasts do not replace Christ.

They reveal Him.

Why This Still Matters

This matters because it reminds us that Jesus is not disconnected from the rest of Scripture.

He is not dropped into the story halfway through. He is the One the story has been anticipating from the beginning.

The feasts show us that God plans with intention.

That He teaches through pattern.

That He keeps His word.

And if He fulfilled the first four with such precision, we can trust Him with the rest.

That means our hope is not vague.

It is anchored.

It is grounded in the faithfulness of God.

So when we read Leviticus, or trace the rhythm of Israel’s holy days, we are not wandering through obsolete rituals.

We are walking through signposts.

And every one of them points to Jesus.

What the Sacrifices Were Always Pointing To

If you have ever tried to read straight through the Bible, you probably know the feeling.

Genesis moves quickly.

Exodus is full of drama.

And then you reach Leviticus.

Suddenly the pace changes. The details pile up. The offerings, regulations, and rituals can feel confusing or distant. You may even wonder why so much of it is there.

But if you stay with it, something beautiful begins to emerge.

Leviticus is not random.

It is not filler.

And it is not disconnected from the gospel.

In fact, some of the most important words we use to describe salvation—atonement, sacrifice, substitution, cleansing, forgiveness—take shape in this book.

And all of them point us to Jesus.

Why So Many Sacrifices?

Leviticus describes several different offerings that God gave to His people. Some were voluntary. Some were required. Each one carried its own meaning.

But together, they taught Israel something they desperately needed to know:

Sin is serious.

God is holy.

And forgiveness is costly.

That was the lesson being repeated again and again through the sacrificial system.

The people brought animals.

Grain.

Oil.

Incense.

Some offerings expressed devotion. Some expressed gratitude. Some dealt with guilt. Some were tied to cleansing and atonement. But all of them were teaching the same deeper truth: something had to stand in the place of the sinner.

That is where the story starts to become personal.

Because once you understand that pattern, it becomes impossible not to see Jesus.

The Burnt Offering and the Beauty of Surrender

One of the first offerings described in Leviticus is the burnt offering.

It had to be without defect. Whole. Unblemished. Set apart.

That matters, because it points us toward the purity of Christ. Jesus was not merely willing to die. He was the spotless offering. Holy. Blameless. Without stain.

But the burnt offering also carried the idea of surrender.

It was offered fully to God. Nothing held back.

And that too points us to Jesus.

He said no one takes His life from Him. He lays it down of His own accord.

That means the cross was not an accident.

It was not a tragedy outside God’s control.

It was a willing offering.

And if we are honest, this is where the story confronts us.

Who was responsible for the death of Jesus?

The Roman soldiers played their part.

The religious leaders played theirs.

Judas did too.

But so did we.

Our sin made His sacrifice necessary. The offering was not abstract. It was personal.

The Grain Offering and the Bread of Life

Then there was the grain offering.

Unlike the other sacrifices, this one did not involve an animal. It was made of flour, oil, and incense. It was simple, beautiful, and deeply meaningful.

It was also offered without leaven.

In Scripture, leaven often points to corruption, pride, or sin. So even in this offering, there is a picture of purity and dependence.

And then, suddenly, the connection becomes even richer.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem .

That name means house of bread.

That is not a small detail.

The One who would later say, “I am the bread of life,” entered the world in the house of bread. The One who gives life to the world stepped right into the imagery the Old Testament had been building for centuries.

He is not only the provider of life.

He is the nourishment of life.

He is the bread our souls were made for.

The Peace Offering and Restored Fellowship

Another offering in Leviticus is often called the peace offering or fellowship offering.

That name alone tells you something important.

This offering was not only about sin removed. It was about relationship restored.

Peace with God.

Fellowship with God.

Nearness instead of separation.

And that is exactly what Jesus brings.

Paul says that Christ Himself is our peace. Through Him, the hostility between us and God is removed. Through Him, we are welcomed into relationship, not merely rescued from judgment.

That is one of the most beautiful parts of the gospel.

Jesus does not simply clear a legal record.

He opens the way home.

The Sin Offering and the Great Exchange

Then come the required sacrifices.

The sin offering was one of them. This offering reminded the people that sin must be dealt with. It could not be ignored. It could not be wished away. It required substitution.

Something innocent stood in the place of the guilty.

That is the logic of sacrifice.

And that is the logic of the cross.

Paul says, “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Those words are almost too beautiful to take in.

Christ died for us.

In our place.

On our behalf.

As our substitute.

This is not a near miss. Jesus is not almost enough. He is not a partial answer. He is the perfect offering who fully accomplished what all those earlier sacrifices could only anticipate.

The Guilt Offering and the Weight We Carry

Leviticus also speaks about the guilt offering.

That feels especially close to home, because guilt is something nearly everyone understands.

We know what it is to feel we have fallen short.

We know what it is to sense that something is not right.

We know what it is to carry what we wish we could undo.

The guilt offering addressed that reality. It was connected not only to forgiveness but also to restitution—to making things right.

And that is what makes Jesus so precious.

He does not merely tell us to try harder next time. He does not simply minimize our guilt or ask us to ignore it. He deals with it.

Really deals with it.

Through His death, what was broken can be made right. Through His blood, what was guilty can be cleansed. Through faith in Him, what was heavy can be lifted.

That is why the gospel is not just a message of improvement. It is a message of release.

Jesus Is Both Priest and Sacrifice

This is where it all comes together.

In Leviticus, the priest offers the sacrifice.

But in Jesus, something greater happens.

He is both.

He is the priest who offers.

And He is the sacrifice that is offered.

That is why Hebrews says that after offering one sacrifice for sins for all time, He sat down at the right hand of God.

The old work continued day after day.

His work was finished.

That single image says more than we often realize. He sat down because nothing else was needed. Nothing could be added. Nothing remained undone.

Where Mercy and Grace Meet

There is a line from an old hymn that captures the heart of all this:

"Mercy there was great, and grace was free."

That is exactly what the sacrifices were pointing toward all along.

Mercy means God does not give us the judgment we deserve.

Grace means He gives us what we could never earn.

And at the cross, both meet.

Jesus bears what we should have borne.

Jesus gives what we could never secure for ourselves.

Jesus opens the way for pardon, peace, and freedom.

That is why Calvary is not simply the place where a good man died.

It is the place where the whole sacrificial story finds its fulfillment.

What This Means for Us

This matters because the gospel is not merely something to admire. It is something to receive.

The sacrifices of Leviticus were never meant to leave us impressed with ritual. They were meant to prepare us for Christ.

And once we see Him clearly, we are invited to do more than study the picture. We are invited to trust the Savior.

That means laying down our self-reliance.

It means letting go of the illusion that our own efforts can make us right with God.

It means bowing our hearts and saying, “My way has not worked. I need what You alone can give.”

And the good news is this:

Because of Jesus, forgiveness is real.

Because of Jesus, guilt can be lifted.

Because of Jesus, peace with God is possible.

That is what the sacrifices were always pointing to.

And that is why they still matter.

Let’s be honest.

If someone asked you for your favorite book of the Bible, you probably would not say Leviticus .

Most people would pick John.

Or Psalms.

Or Romans.

Or Philippians.

But Leviticus?

That’s usually the book where Bible reading plans start to slow down.

And yet, hidden inside all of its rituals, sacrifices, priestly instructions, and repeated calls to holiness is something deeply beautiful:

Leviticus is full of Jesus.

That may sound surprising at first. But once you begin to see it, it changes the way you read the whole book.

Because Jesus did not come to discard the Old Testament. He came to fulfill it.

Jesus Did Not Erase the Story—He Completed It

When Jesus said He came not to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill them, He was saying something far bigger than many people realize.

“The Law and the Prophets” was a way of speaking about the whole sweep of the Hebrew Scriptures. In other words, Jesus was saying that the story had always been moving toward Him.

The commands.

The symbols.

The sacrifices.

The longing.

All of it was pointing somewhere.

Or more accurately, pointing to Someone.

The Law Was Never Meant to Save Us

One of the first things Jesus helps us understand is the true purpose of God’s law.

The law was never meant to be a ladder we could climb to make ourselves righteous. It was meant to show us how far short we fall.

That is why Paul says the law makes us conscious of sin.

It exposes us.

It humbles us.

It tells the truth about us.

And Jesus did not lower that standard. He raised it.

He said that murder was not only about what happens with our hands. It also had to do with anger in the heart.

He said adultery was not only about outward behavior. It also had to do with inward desire.

Jesus brought the law down beneath the surface. He showed that obedience is not just about external compliance. It is about the heart.

And once we understand that, we realize something important:

We do not just need better behavior.

We need a Savior.

The Sacrifices Were Pointing to a Greater Sacrifice

This is where Leviticus becomes especially powerful.

Again and again, sacrifices were offered. Day after day. Year after year. The priests kept working because the work was never finally done.

That repetition was telling a story.

It was telling Israel that sin is costly.

It was telling them that holiness matters.

It was telling them that atonement is necessary.

But it was also telling them that these sacrifices were not the final answer.

They were shadows.

Pictures.

Preparations.

The book of Hebrews makes this beautifully clear. The priests kept standing because their work continued. But Jesus offered Himself once for all—and then sat down at the right hand of the Father.

That image says everything.

The work was finished.

What thousands of sacrifices could never fully accomplish, Jesus accomplished through His own death on the cross.

Even the Tabernacle Was Whispering His Name

Leviticus is not only about sacrifices. It is also about space.

Holy space.

Set-apart space.

The tabernacle.

This was the place where God chose to dwell among His people in a special way. Every piece of it mattered. Every detail said something.

And then John says something stunning about Jesus:

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

That phrase means more than simply “lived with us.” It carries the idea of tabernacling among us.

In other words, what the tabernacle represented in symbol, Jesus fulfilled in person.

He did not merely tell us about God.

He revealed Him.

He brought the presence of God near in a way the tabernacle could only foreshadow.

The glory that once hovered over the holy place was now seen in the life of Christ.

Jesus Is the Better Priest

Leviticus is also filled with priests.

They offered sacrifices.

They interceded for the people.

They stood between holy God and sinful humanity.

But even that was temporary.

The priests of the old covenant kept ministering because the problem of sin had not yet been fully dealt with. But Jesus, Hebrews tells us, is our great High Priest.

He did not offer another animal.

He offered Himself.

He did not bring a temporary sacrifice.

He brought a final one.

He did not need to repeat the work.

He completed it.

This is part of what makes Jesus so beautiful in the story of Scripture. He is not merely one more priest in the line. He is the fulfillment of everything the priesthood was trying to accomplish.

The Scapegoat Was a Picture, Too

One of the most vivid images in Leviticus is the scapegoat.

The sins of the people were symbolically placed on the goat, and it was sent away into the wilderness. It carried the guilt away.

What a picture.

And what a glimpse of Christ.

Isaiah says the Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

The blame we carried, He bore.

The guilt that was ours, He took.

The sin that stained us, He carried away.

That is not a minor detail in the biblical story. It is the center of it.

Jesus is the one who steps into our place.

Holiness Is Not Left Behind

Leviticus also reminds us again and again that God is holy.

That theme runs through the whole book.

Be holy.

Consecrate yourselves.

Set yourselves apart.

At first, that can feel intimidating. And in one sense, it should. God’s holiness is not casual. It is blazing. Pure. Uncompromising.

But here is the good news: Jesus did not come only to forgive us. He came to make us new.

Through Him, the righteousness of God is credited to us. And then, by His Spirit, we are called to reflect that holiness in the way we live.

So holiness is not the opposite of grace.

It is one of grace’s fruits.

Jesus fulfills the call to holiness not only by living the perfect life we could not live, but by making it possible for His people to begin walking in that new life.

The Book We Skip Is Actually Full of Hope

Maybe that is one of the great surprises of Leviticus.

What first looks like a difficult book of old rituals turns out to be full of hope.

Because everywhere you look, the message is the same:

You need atonement.

You need cleansing.

You need a priest.

You need holiness.

You need someone to carry your sin.

And in Jesus, God has provided all of it.

That is why the old hymn still says it so well:

Jesus paid it all.

Not some of it.

Not most of it.

All of it.

Why This Matters

This matters because it changes how we read the Bible.

We stop seeing the Old Testament as a strange collection of outdated laws and begin seeing it as a story filled with anticipation.

It also changes how we see Jesus.

He is not only the Savior introduced in the Gospels. He is the One the whole Bible was waiting for.

And it changes how we worship.

Because when we realize how many pictures, patterns, sacrifices, and promises find their fulfillment in Him, our hearts do what they were meant to do:

They bow.

They wonder.

They give thanks.

Leviticus may not be the book most people rush toward.

But once you begin to see Jesus there, you may never read it the same way again.

War ends.

Justice reigns.

The City Beyond History

But even that is not the final chapter.

The Bible ends with a breathtaking promise.

One day God will create a New Jerusalem.
